I picked up the canvas panels for the Forgotten Works 30 Day Challenge on Saturday and forgot the camera to document the event. I met Charles Holzhey the person behind the Challenge at his studio in the TK complex. The 30 individual 8″ X 10″ panels are from Utrecht and are pretty nice actually.
I am still miffed at myself for having the camera…
The panels have a nice texture but I want to change the texture for few reasons. I want the peices to differentiate themselves on the wall from the other panels when shown, so for me the surface of the paintings is key. I want a matte finish that has a little luminance under the surface. I have been pondering whether I should use oil or acrylic, I chose acrylic becuase it has been treating me well lately and the drying time is fast.
I took a ten inch taping knife and coated one board with a thin layer of Golden light modeling paste. JustĀ enough to cover the board and hide the canvas testure, the texture on the boards is almost like a cheesecloth pattern. I will assess the panel tonight and see if it is going to do the trick.
I hope to have some pics of this process tonight as well.
