This is the first post my project journal for the Art in Great Spaces 6 week retail space residency.
Tonight from memory I mocked up a 3d sketch of the site I will be working in for the next 6 weeks. The space is in Everett Washington and has been unoccupied for nearly a year. The space previously served as a bank for 8 years and a bridal gown consignment store more recently. It has a bunch of windows and the natural light is great. The walls are freshly painted in a almost-white with a tint of blue-green, the carpet is blue-grey berber.
I work intuitively and today was the first time I was able to enter and walk around the space. This will be the first “installation” I really have ever done and the space is @ 2800 sq ft. So that is a big room. I have been bouncing around a few ideas but nothing seemed to solidify until after I entered the space.
Tomorrow I will start moving into the space and posting the whole process as I go. The next 6 weeks are going to be fun.
